What We Do

The Student Ombudsman will:

  • Listen to complaint, concerns, problems, and disputes
  • Provide referrals
  • Identify relevant policies and procedures
  • Facilitate communication
  • Help with bureaucracy
  • Gather facts
  • Find solutions
  • Recommend changes to university policies and procedure
  • Report trends back to the university

Types of Concerns We Hear:

  • Grade disputes
  • Student to Student Conflicts
  • Student conflicts with instructors, processes, or departments
  • Library fines
  • Parking and transportation issues
  • Housing and food
  • Scholastic dishonesty
  • Enrollment and registration
  • Final Exams
  • Anything else of a non-legal nature

Why go to the Office of the Student Ombudsman?

  • You have a problem, concern, complaint or dispute
  • You would like to talk over a situation confidentially
  • You need help communicating with someone
  • You are unsure of the policies or procedures that apply to your problem
  • You intend to file a complaint or an appeal, but are unsure how  to proceed
  • You would like to know what resources or options are available to you
  • You feel a policy or procedure is not being followed fairly

The Office of the Student Ombudsman does not get involved if:

  • You want a representative
  • It’s a legal issue
  • You want to lodge a formal complaint

The Office of the Student Ombudsman reserves the right to deny any case considered inappropriate. We do not arbitrate, adjudicate, or participate in any internal or external formal processes.
