Question: What is Javascript?

Answer: JavaScript is a basic scripting language that allows Web authors to create dynamic pages that react to user interaction. JavaScript is NOT Java but is based loosely on the Java programming language. JavaScript programs are contained within the HTML code of the Web page and are interpreted by the browser as it its read [as opposed to Java programs that are downloaded separately from the HTML page].

JavaScript is a "safe" programming language, one that cannot access any system controls or hardware on a user's computer.

JavaScript provides greater flexibility to the Web designer through such luxuries as being able to create windows, display moving text, sound or other multimedia elements with relative ease.

All modern browsers can interpret JavaScript.

Overall, JavaScript is a fairly universal extension to HTML that can enhance the user experience through rich website content.

How to Enable/Disable JavaScript

The following instructions describe how to set JavaScript options for the following browsers:

	Internet Explorer
	Mozilla \ Firefox
	Opera
	Safari
	Netscape
	AOL

Internet Explorer 3.X

1. Select Options from the View menu.
2. Click Security.
3. Check Enable Java Programs.
4. Click OK.
5. Click Reload.

2. Click the Security tab.
3. Click Custom.
4. Click Settings.
5. Scroll down to locate Scripting.
6. Click Enable for Active Scripting.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Reload.

1. Open Internet Explorer.

3. In Internet Options dialog box select the Security tab.
4. Click Custom level button at bottom. The Security Settings dialog box will pop up.
5. Under Scripting category enable Active Scripting, Allow paste options via script and Scripting of Java applets
