Information and Resources
The University of South Florida’s mission and purpose is to foster
a learning environment that provides growth, development and safety for
its community. Students who experience acute or long-standing emotional
and medical stresses are expected to assume primary responsibility for
initiating early intervention and for maintaining prescribed treatment
plans. Failure to take responsibility for personal decisions affecting
the health and safety of self or others may require University officials
to take actions on behalf of the entire community. Under these circumstances,
University officials, administrators, or medical professionals may consider
the appropriateness of involuntary examination, hospitalization, treatment
of mental or physical illness and may take appropriate disciplinary action
in the event of non compliance with University directives. If determined
in the best interest of community health and safety, it may also be required
that the person in crisis be removed from the University.
The Division of Student Affairs provides
students with information about non-academic policies and depending on
the particular instance Student Judicial Services or Student Relations
may monitor and evaluate student crisis situations.
In all cases, the University wants to ensure
that all community members have access to resources that may assist in
times of crisis or personal trial. This website offers information about
comprehensive professional and emergency care, both on campus and in the
greater community for students, faculty or administrators.
