Meeting Notes of the USF Student Affairs
Planning & Assessment Team
July 28, 2009

Attending: Regina Hyatt, Shane Johnson, Kimberly Mallard, Gary Manka, Susan Phillips, Tom Miller, Olga Skalkos, Judi Sherman, Charlene Herreid

The next PAT events coming up are the Outcomes Assessment Workshops to be held August 17, 2009. Workshops will be held in the morning and afternoon to assure maximum attendance. The main audience is expected to be department chairs, but they will be encouraged to bring anyone who will be working on outcomes assessment in 2009-10 who might benefit from participating in this event. There will be an active learning component. Chairs will be asked to bring an example of an assessment used in 2008-09 for small group discussions about how outcomes may be improved. We will be publicizing events with fliers and also at the next SALT meeting. PAT members are encouraged to come to help facilitate the session.

Regina has scheduled the “What We Know…..” series sessions for fall 2009. Events will be held September-December. On-going training for SALT team members in assessment methods is also scheduled for the fall. These sessions are scheduled for September, October and November. Proposed topics up to now are survey methods, rubrics and qualitative methods.

The meeting notes from July 14, 2009 were approved as read.

It was agreed that it would be useful for the team to review the Outcomes Assessment plans submitted for 2008-09 in order to provide feedback to the departments as they prepare their 2009-10 Outcomes Assessment plans. It was also agreed that the same subcommittees that reviewed the departmental Strategic Plans would review the departmental OA plans. Charlene will distribute an up-to-date OA rubric and the OA plans for 2008-09 by department to the subcommittees. The subcommittees will make arrangements to meet to discuss the plans and pass along their feedback to the PAT.

Charlene informed the group that the Student Affairs OA Assessment Plans for 2008-09 have been passed on to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment. This office has been reorganized and oversees assessment for the entire university. Their personnel will review the OA plans and return feedback. Charlene will pass along the feedback when it is received.

The Planning and Assessment website continues to grow. The welcome page is complete and Charlene and Regina are working with Bob Varghese to populate the other site tabs.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
