Meeting Notes of the USF Student Affairs
Planning & Assessment Team
April 21, 2009

Attending: Regina Young Hyatt, Chair; Kimberly Mallard, Gary Manka, Judi Sherman, Charlene Herreid

Chair Regina Young Hyatt called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

The team reviewed the outcomes assessment plan rubric that Charlene obtained from the Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence. The group was generally positive about using this as a basis for our rubric for assessing departmental outcomes assessment plans. One suggestion was to add the result “partially met requirement.” Judi Sherman volunteered to call together a subcommittee to adapt the rubric for our use. She will be contacting PAT members to ask them to serve.

The team spent time reviewing the 2008-09 matrix of Expanded Student Learning Outcomes for Student Affairs. Team members are encouraged to continue to send in ideas for verbs to use to articulate student learning outcomes at various levels of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.

Kimberly Mallard suggested that the PAT consider contributing presentations about the USF Student Affairs Strategic Planning and Outcomes Assessment processes to the USF Student Affairs Summer Symposium, to be held in June. Some suggestions she had for presentations were: discussion of Key Success/Key Performance Indicators to be adopted for the division, presenting guidebooks for divisional planning and/or assessment, having Charlene reprise the student enrollment and retention data presented at the What We Know seminar in April (hopefully to a wider audience) and developing measures and tools for outcomes assessment. After discussion the following topics for presentations were selected to submit: Student Enrollment and First Year Retention Trends at USF, 2004-2008 that Charlene will submit; a presentation on the planning and/or assessment processes in the USF Division of Student Affairs by Kimberly and a presentation on assessing student learning that Regina will prepare.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
