Meeting Notes of the USF Student Affairs
Planning & Assessment Team
March 24, 2009

Attending: Regina Young Hyatt, Chair; Gary Manka; Steve Milburn, Tom Miller, Dorie Paine, Susan Phillips, Judi Sherman, Olga Skalkos, Jerry Trotter

Chair Regina Young Hyatt called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Regina indicated that she would take the notes for today’s meeting since Charlene could not be with us.

The team discussed Bloom’s taxonomy and what it means for learning outcomes. There is a link to Bloom’s Revised taxonomy at this website: http://www.odu.edu/educ/roverbau/Bloom/blooms._taxonomy.htm. We will use this link on our PAT website and use the handout when we unveil the learning outcomes to the division.

The learning outcomes were discussed. They have been e-mailed to the members. A hard copy was passed out at the meeting. Members were asked to review the current outcomes and make notes about feedback to share at the next PAT meeting.

The next item discussed was the Glossary. Several terms are still not defined. The following persons agreed to come up with definitions for these terms: Steve-accountability; Tom-assessment outcomes; Dorie-benchmarking; and Charlene (in absentia)-direct and indirect assessment. After discussion, the following terms were eliminated: interpersonal growth & development; learning & development; student development; outcomes assessment. The following items were chosen from multiple options: #1 in best practices; #1 in outcomes with the revision of “a set of measurable results associated with each divisional goal statement describing what students know, understand, and can do with their knowledge as a result of their University experience.” The team rewrote the Student Learning Outcomes to state knowledge, skills and dispositions that students should be able to demonstrate as a result of their university experience.

The Team approved the distributed history document noting that where indicated, appropriate hyperlinks will be added to the document.
