Meeting Notes of the USF Student Affairs
Planning & Assessment Team
January 27, 2009

Attending: Regina Young Hyatt, Chair; Kimberly Mallard; Gary Manka; Steve Milburn, Tom Miller, Dorie Paine; Judy Sherman; Olga Skalkos, Charlene Herreid

Chair Regina Young Hyatt called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The Team reviewed the Student Affairs Mission, Vision and Values statements that incorporated feedback from the December 15, SALT Strategic Planning retreat. The revised statements will be presented at the January 29 SALT meeting for final approval.

Team members decided that we should commence with preparing documentation for the divisional Strategic Planning and Outcomes Assessment processes. This documentation will be posted at the Student Affairs Planning and Assessment website to provide guidance to division personnel who may have questions about the Strategic Planning and Outcomes Assessment processes in Student Affairs. It was determined at the January 13 PAT meeting that we need documentation in the following areas; 1) a history of Strategic Planning and Assessment in Student Affairs, to demonstrate our continuing efforts in these areas that have occurred over time: 2) a glossary of terms used in the divisional Strategic Planning and Outcomes Assessment processes for future reference, and, 3) a guidebook or guidebooks that describes the processes available on line for review at any time by departments that are working on their unit strategic planning and assessment processes.

Tom Miller and Olga Skalkos will work on History; Judi Sherman, Charlene Herreid, Steve Milburn and Regina Hyatt will work on the glossary and Dorie Paine, Charlene Herreid and Kimberly Mallard will work on the guidebook(s). The subcommittees will meet next week and report back on their progress at the next general PAT meeting.

Marilee Bresciani’s visit is scheduled for April 3 as the option of April 10 was no better in terms of attendance and it is Good Friday. April 3 will be announced at the January 29 SALT meeting.

Regina and Charlene worked on the changes to Strategies for Divisional Goal I (Organizational Integrity) that were recommended by PAT members at the last meeting. Regina passed out a sheet showing changes. The main difference was that Strategies 1.1 and 1.2 were combined and reformulated. PAT members discussed feedback from the SALT Retreat regarding Divisional Goal II (University Community). Regina and Charlene will work on integrating results of this feedback and discussion by the PAT into the Strategies for Goal II.

Charlene presented enrollment and retention statistics from fall 2008 term along with comparison data from past years. PAT members are asked to review the data and give her feedback.

The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.

Charlene Herreid,
Director of Student Affairs Planning, Evaluation & Assessment.
